Frustrated with God
Exodus 5 recounts that after Moses asked Pharaoh to let the Hebrew people go, Pharaoh cracked down on them and made them work harder than ever.
Having been sent by God to speak to Pharaoh, Moses was frustrated. He said, “Lord, why have You brought harm to this people? Why did You ever send me? Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done harm to this people…” (Exodus 5:22b-23a, NASB 2020).
Then, and I just love this, he said “You have not rescued Your people at all.” (Exodus 5:23, NASB 2020)
When we are convinced that Father has spoken to us, or when we lay things at His feet and ask for help sometimes it seems like Father has not heard us. Sometimes things appear to get worse. I think many of us can identify with Moses
I also really love Fathers response to Moses frustrated complaint. “Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for under compulsion he will let them go, and under compulsion he will drive them out of his land.’” (Exodus 6:1, NASB 2020)
Let’s never count God out.
Just as He gave Abraham a child through Sarah when they were both well past the age of childbearing, so He is able to bring about good in our situations.
Just as Joseph was sold into slavery then thrown in prison and later rose to great power and told his brothers “You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.” (Genesis 50:20), so He can save many through the unpleasant circumstances in our lives.
Just as Paul’s imprisonment gave him the opportunity to write several Epistles, so Father can work within the limitations placed upon us to benefit and bless others.
It’s understandable for us to get frustrated with God. It’s perfectly fine for us to express that to Him. He really meant it when He inspired Peter to tell us to give Him all our cares, all our anxious thoughts.
He loves us. He cares. He is working for good. Always.
