Bible Inspiration
The Bible is a collection of 66 books and letters written over a period of about 1,500 years.
The entire collection was written by around 40 authors who were inspired by the Holy Spirit of God.
That's called "plenary inspiration."
Each of these writers wrote in their own style and out of their own culture.
Still, the Holy Spirit also inspired them with regard to the words they chose to use.
That's called "verbal inspiration."
Each of these principles is important.
Plenary inspiration is important.
Because of the Holy Spirit's inspiration, the entire collection tells a single story.
The story of Jesus Christ, God's redemption of humanity.
Verbal inspiration is important.
Because of verbal inspiration, we can benefit from examining the words of the text carefully.
This helps us gain a clearer understanding of what is being communicated in hard-to-understand passages.
The Scriptures contain God’s message, or word to us.
As valuable and wonderful as they are, the Scriptures do not give life.
The Scriptures point to Jesus.
Jesus alone gives life.
John 5:39–40 “You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is those very Scriptures that testify about Me; and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.” (NASB 2020)
