The Reward Part 5

REVELATION Number 60
The End of All Saints

The letters to the churches contain a number of additional reward components. While this part of our study could be greatly expanded, in the interest of progress, let’s again view these in the aggregate.

Additional reward components we find include the following:
walk with The Lord Jesus dressed in white
to be a pillar in the temple of God
to bear God’s name
to bear the name of the New Jerusalem
to bear the new name of the Lord Jesus
to sit with the Lord Jesus on His throne.

Walking with the Lord Jesus dressed in white is an incredibly beautiful picture. We are told that these white robes worn by the bride of Christ are the righteous acts of the saints. Revelation 19:8 “It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” (NASB 2020)

Revelation 7:9 speaks of us, saying, “After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all the tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands” (NASB 2020).

As we have seen in earlier segments, we bear the name of God and of the Lord Jesus. The Revelation also tells us that we will bear the name of the new Jerusalem. This is a curious statement until we read Revelation 21:9–10 “Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls, full of the seven last plagues, came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God” (NASB 2020).

At the beginning of our study, we read that the Lord Jesus walks among the lampstands. He is living amid the local fellowships of believers. We also see throughout scripture that God’s design is for Him to live among us. As early as the garden of Eden, we are told that God walked with His people in the cool of the day.

The tabernacle, a specially designed tent erected in the wilderness, contained the most holy place. In this room was placed the Ark of the Covenant upon which was the Mercy Seat where God met with the High Priest. It was set apart, sanctified to God, but it existed in the camp where the nation of Israel lived.

Later, the temple in Jerusalem modeled that same design, but it was ultimately destroyed in favor of the new temple, the people of God themselves. 1 Corinthians 3:16 does not mince words when it declares, “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (NASB 2020)

No wonder then that those who overcome are made to be a pillar in His temple and sit with Him on His throne. No wonder then that we bear the name of the new Jerusalem. We are the holy city, the dwelling place of God!
