Sins in the Life of a Believer

Sins in the Life of a Believer

Saint, you have believed on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Consequently, sins in your life have no effect upon your right standing or acceptance with God. When you falter, Father does not turn His back on you. When you stumble, you have not fallen out of fellowship with Him.

Jesus Christ came to take away sin.

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” John 1:29 (NIV)

“God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19 (NIV)

Because of the work Jesus finished at the cross, God promised, “I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” Hebrews 8:12 (NIV)

Sins do have earthly consequences, however. We who are in Christ are not exempt from the negative effects of sin here on earth. If we kill someone, we are punished. If we cheat on our spouse, our marriage may be ruined along with our relationship with our children or other family members.

When we make choices according to the flesh, we may feel that Father is far from us or that our fellowship with Him is broken. But feelings do not change the truth. He said that He would never leave or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5, John 14:18)

When we believe, we are saved.

“Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.” John 6:47 (NIV)

When we are saved, we receive His Spirit.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever; the Helper is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you.” John 14:16–17 (NASB 2020)

We also receive His righteousness.

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NASB 2020)

“For if by the offense of the one, death reigned through the one, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:17 (NASB 2020)

We are placed into Christ.

“On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” John 14:20 (NIV)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

Sins are no longer the issue between you and God.

Live free, Saint!
