The Great Promise 4 of 4

The Great Promise Part 4 of 4

Ezekiel 36:26-27

Here's the promise: "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgements and do them."

These promises are fulfilled the moment we believe on Jesus for right standing with God.

As we've seen, we have a new spirit, a new heart, and the Holy Spirit living in us.

The last part of this great promise is amazing, freeing, and life changing.

God promised that He would "cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgements and do them."

That means that obedience, maturing, or living a godly life, are not things you have to strive for.

Philippians 2:13 puts it this way, "it is God who works in you both to will and to do according to His good pleasure."

He gives you the desire to live a godly life.

Titus 2 :11-12 puts it thus way, "the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all people, teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world."

The grace of God teaches us to act like who we are.

In Romans 6:17 Paul wrote, "you were servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart..."

That's the effect of the Spirit in us. We want what He wants.

In John 15:5, Jesus says, "he that lives in me and I in Him, brings forth much fruit..."

This is the easy yoke and light burden Jesus talked about.

This is the Sabbath rest for the people of God mentioned in Hebrews.

It's not on you to behave and perform your way to acceptance, compatibility, or reconciliation with God.

As Dr. Andrew Farley often says, "God has rigged it."

He has rigged it so that all the pressure is off you.

You are free, saint.

Does that make you want to go out and sin, or does it make you want to live like a child of the Living God, a child of the King?

That desire to live in a godly way is Him in you.

That's a real hope of glory!

When God makes a promise, it's guaranteed.
What God says, must occur.
All His promises are finished in Christ.

In this, you can find rest and confidence.
