Thankfulness in Suffering

Rainbows and Unicorns

Life isn't all rainbows and unicorns.

There are good times, to be sure, but there are lots of rough patches and even downright disasters.

Jesus said there would be days like this (see John 16:33). None of us is exempt from pain and suffering.

Father loves us amid all of it. Good times or bad, Holy Spirit is faithfully guiding and comforting us. Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that He would never leave us nor forsake us (see Hebrews 13:5).

This is why, even in the darkest days we can remain thankful and at peace. None of us are thankful for the darkness and pain, but we can be thankful even while we are going through it.

Thankful that we are not alone.
Thankful that we are unconditionally loved.
Thankful that we are accepted by God.
Thankful that we are secure in Him.
Thankful that we are coming to know Him better.
Thankful that we are growing in grace.
Thankful that we are joint heirs with Christ.

Don't let the enemy make you think that something is wrong with you. You are not being singled out by God. You are not being punished. You are not being cursed.

Our suffering is happening because we are still living in this fallen world. This is the domain of darkness. As God’s ambassadors here, we are not exempted from the effects of evil.

Everyone suffers.
Jesus suffered.
The Apostles suffered.

Father’s plan is being worked out. Tribulation is happening as a warning. It is a call to those who do not acknowledge God to change their minds and put their faith in Christ Jesus. Not because God wants to prevent people from enjoying themselves, but because real joy, peace, and Life are found only in Him.

So, when we find ourselves beset on every side and enduring painful and terrible circumstances, let’s remind one another that we are safely held in Father’s loving hands.

Lean into Him.
Know that He cares.
Trust Him for peace and comfort.
