Run to Papa

When Feelings do not Align with Desire.

Father has taken out our hard old heart and given us a soft and loving new heart. That has caused us to deeply desire to walk by faith, to live godly lives, and to do things that reflect His beauty.

Sometimes our feelings do not align with those desires, however. When that happens the enemy and the power of sin tempt us to feel guilty. They shame us and tell us that we are not very dedicated to the Lord. They accuse us of failing to bear fruit, or of growing tired of doing the good works that Father prepared in advance for us to walk in. These things are all lies.

Here is the truth: Even Jesus experienced this.

Mark 14:34-46 (NASB)

And He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch.”

And He went a little beyond them and fell to the ground and began to pray that if it were possible, the hour might pass Him by.

And He was saying, “Abba! Father! All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You will.”

Our hero, Jesus, prayed this more than once.

Everything Jesus did on Earth He did by faith.

He had laid aside His prerogative as God and did not use that to His advantage.

He lived as we must live.

His feelings were, that being beaten and shamed, going to the cross, laying down His life, and taking on the sin of the world, was too much to bear.

His heart was the heart of God. His heart loved us and wanted to rescue us.

His feelings screamed that there had to be another way, that He had to get out.

Amid this deep mental anguish,

He turned to Abba.

He ran to Papa.

He asked for what His soul (mind, will, and emotions) screamed for.

He laid it at Father’s feet.

He put it all in Father’s hands and,

He found grace in His time of need.

It’s not wrong, or even unusual, for our souls to be in anguish. God knows that will happen to us. He has been here and done that.

Run to Papa.
