God IS First

All I’m saying is that once we have believed and are in Christ, we have prioritized Him above all else. No further actions designed to give Him more preeminence in our lives is necessary—He is our life! The life we now live in the flesh we live by faith in Him. (see Galatians 2:20)

Now we are free to live the life of faith, fully dependent on Him to be both Lord and source. As He continues to work in us to align our desires with Him and as He continually teaches us to deny ungodliness and live upright holy lives in this world, we increasingly demonstrate to the world His great power and glory in us.

Many teach something else. They teach that we should examine ourselves to be sure we are behaving in godly ways so that our witness for Christ will not be ruined and so that Father will continue to be pleased with us. There is certainly nothing wrong with us correcting things that we find are not aligned with the character of God. We are absolutely well advised to do that, but we do it willingly and out of love, never out of a sense that by those actions we are putting Him first or somehow earning His favor.
