Father’s Gentle Leading
Father’s Gentle Leading
If you’ve followed my writing for a while you may know that I was raised in a very legalistic church and even preached legalism in the past. The changes that Father made in my theological understanding and my knowledge of who He truly is are astounding and freeing.
A while back someone asked me about the process by which Father led me to the unadulterated truth of the gospel. I had written about it that I felt like a spectator of my own life. Here is what I wrote in reply.
By His Spirit, Father drew me back from my fleshly life through the pain and suffering I was experiencing in myself and my family. Then, through what seemed to me to be just the natural decisions I made in my life, one thing after another contributed to new understanding.
Father used things like the people in churches we decided to attend. A small book entitled "Lessons from a Sheep Dog". A special sermon series taught at one church we attended that began to redefine grace for me. A falling out with a larger church, and the subsequent move to a tiny little church where the pastor preached grace without law.
I thought I was just living my life, but sea change was taking place in my theological belief system to the point that it seemed at times like I was merely an outside observer.
Maybe you find yourself in a quagmire of confusion and doubt. Or perhaps you are increasingly unsettled and ill at ease about things you’ve been taught. Possibly you have nagging questions about the doctrine and theology you’ve held dear for decades.
Let me encourage you. All of that is being used by Father to bring you to a clear understanding of the freedom Jesus has provided you. I urge you to yield to the quiet promptings to examine statements you hear. Let yourself trust that Holy Spirit is whispering quietly and gently leading you into the truth that is in Christ Jesus. Allow the love of God expressed in Jesus to stimulate and renew your mind.
He is working in you and He will not stop until the day you see Him as He is.
