The First Gospel

The First Gospel

Many have said that Genesis 3:15 is the first declaration of the Gospel.

It reads, “And I will make enemies of you and the woman, and of your offspring and her Descendant; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise Him on the heel.” (NASB 2020)

In reading something unrelated today, it occurred to me that this is not the first time the Gospel is declared in the Bible.

Genesis 1:2–4 tells us
“The earth was a formless and desolate emptiness, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and
the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.” (NASB 2020)

This sure sounds like the Gospel to me.

We once walked in dark and desolate emptiness. (Ephesians 5:8)
The Spirit of God in relation to people was mysterious. (Colossians 1:26-27)
Jesus is the Light who came into the world. (Isaiah 9:2, John 1:9 & 9:5)
All who are in the Light of Christ Jesus are separated from darkness. (John 12:46, Colossians 1:13)

God saw the Light, and it was good.
Good because all who come to the Light find God.

We celebrate Christmas with light.
We often top our evergreen (always living) tree with a star.

If you’re searching for peace, follow the light of the Star like the Magi of old, and find the Lord Jesus, compassionate, loving, meek and mild. He said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28–30 (NASB 2020)

He did not come to condemn, but to save (John 3:17)
