Spiritual Birth
My wife Joan tends to be introverted. She’s a deep thinker, but generally a private person who mostly prefers to remain out of the spotlight. Recently however, she was moved to comment on a post she read. I want to share her thoughts with you because I think her way of looking at spiritual birth is elegantly simple and clear.
Here is what she wrote.
“I am reminded of how a baby comes into being: a part from the mom and a part from the dad joined and voila, new life!
“Can you imagine any of us going back to being the two parts?
No, of course not. It’s impossible.
“If this is true of natural birth, could spiritual birth be anything less?
Absolutely not!
“In fact, spiritual birth is even better than natural birth, for it contains eternal life. It cannot be undone.”
Reading this, I am reminded of scripture passages like these.
John 3:5–7
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.” (NASB 2020)
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (NASB 2020)
2 Corinthians 6:18
“And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.” (NASB 2020)
Romans 8:15–16
“For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters by which we cry out, ‘Abba! Father!’ The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God” (NASB 2020).
1 Corinthians 2:12a
“Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God” (NASB 2020).
You have been born of the Spirit, Saint, and you cannot be unborn.
