Grace and Peace
Grace and Peace
Romans 5:1-2 (KJV)
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
It is by grace we are saved, and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God. (see Ephesians 2:8-9) Because it is faith that brings about our right standing with God, we have peace with God.
Earlier in Romans (see 4:4) Paul says that if we worked our way to right standing, the reward would be provided to us because God would owe us a debt. This is why being justified by faith results in peace between us and God. We are no longer in debt to Him, and we are not trying to place Him in debt to us—as if that were possible.
It is through Jesus that we are justified and reconciled to God. It is also through Jesus that we have access into the grace of God. Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 10:19-22 also talks about our ability to come directly into the holiest place (the presence of God) with a clear conscience knowing that we are cleansed completely.
We know that the reward of our inheritance is safe in Christ. We are in Christ, Christ is in us, and our lives are hidden in God with Christ. Therefore, we have complete peace with God. There is no need ever to feel guilty or uncertain of how He might react to anything we share with Him. Guilt shame, and fear are never from God. They may come from fleshly thoughts or feelings or they may come from the enemy.
We stand in the wonderful, overwhelming, scandalous grace of God.
When we approach the throne of grace, we get grace.
