The Fellowship of the King
The Fellowship of the King
Communion is koinonia; fellowship. A remembering and sharing together what Jesus has done. A reminder of the forgiveness His death made possible and the life His resurrection provided. It is an acted sermon that edifies, encourages, and strengthens the people of God.
We get some insight into Communion in 1 Corinthians 10:15-17 (KJV) "I speak as to wisemen; judge ye what I say. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion (koinonia, fellowship, sharing) of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion (koinonia again) of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread."
The Communion meal is also designed to bring us together and to remind us that we are all one body. 1 Corinthians 12:13 (KJV) "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into (immersed in) one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into (take into ourselves) one Spirit."
Baptism and communion model and make real to us our salvation. In baptism, we act out the fact that we are placed into Christ. In communion, we act out the fact that He is placed into us!
Enjoy the sharing and fellowship of the bread and the wine with sisters and brothers in Christ, with your family, or all by yourself if you want.
