Walking Worthily
Walking Worthily
After telling us in the last few verses of Ephesians 3 how well rooted and grounded we are, Paul writes in Ephesians 4:1-6 that we should walk in a manner worthy of our calling, our new spiritual identity.
Such a walk, he writes, would be:
In humility,
In gentleness,
With patience,
With tolerance for others,
In love,
In peace,
In a way that fosters unity.
His exhortation could come off sounding very legalistic and give an opportunity for the accuser to whisper that we don't measure up.
So what does Paul do?
Without one hint of condemnation or judgment, he implores, he urges, he strongly councils us toward good behavior.
There's no shaming here.
There's no finger pointing.
There's no lording his position over us.
There is unity.
One body,
One Spirit,
One hope,
One Lord,
One faith,
One baptism, (immersion into Jesus)
One God and Father.
That's how grace approaches things. Easy yokes and light burdens.
