The Great Promise 1 of 4
The Great Promise Part 1 of 4
Ezekiel 26:26-27 records a promise from God that brings enormous clarity to our understanding of what Jesus did for us and who he made us.
Here's the promise: "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgements and do them."
Over the next few posts I want to unpack this a little.
These promises are fulfilled the moment we believe on Jesus for right standing with God.
First, God promises a new spirit.
In 2 Corinthians 5:17 we see that when we are placed into Christ, we become a new creature.
This is what it means to be born again; to be born of the Spirit.
We are spirits.
We have souls.
We live in bodies.
But we _are_ spirits.
Jesus said (John 3:6) "That which is born of the flesh is flesh."
That's old you. Earthy you.
He went on, "and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."
That's new you. The new creature. The new creation you became in Christ. What’s old is gone because new creations have no past.
To be totally clear and certain, we need look no further than 1 John 3:9, which reads, "Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin, because God's seed remains in that person because s/he is born of God."
See that word "seed"?
In the Greek the word is "sperma". That's about as clear as it gets.
Never doubt that your new spirit is compatible with God.
Never doubt He is your Father.
Never doubt the depth of the change He has made in you.
You are, very profoundly, not who you were.
