Freed from Sin, Enslaved to Righteousness
Freed From Sin, Enslaved to Righteousness
Romans 6:7 says that one who has died is freed from sin.
In verse 6 were told that our old self was crucified with Christ. That "old self" is our former sinful nature. The nature we all inherited from Adam.
So why does the death of our old self free us from sin? Romans 4:15 tells us that where there is no law, there is no violation. Now jump to Romans 6:14 and see that sin shall not be Master over you. Why? Because you are not under law, but under grace.
So here it is. Laws govern the living. If you are dead, laws do not apply. You can't prosecute dead people.
But wait, there's more!
Your old self died, yes, but you got a new self. Your new self has a new nature. God's nature. You inherited that when you were born of the Spirit; born of God.
God's nature is grace and truth. It's love. This is your new nature. You're no longer a slave to sin. Instead, you are a slave to righteousness.
You can't help it; it's just who you are!
