The Weight of the World
We recently sold our house and bought another. Our plan had been to finance the one we were buying, slowly move out of the other one, and then pay off the financing. We expected all this to take at least to mid-May or early June. As it turned out, that was not to be. As we were finalizing the financing, our real estate agent convinced us to list the home we planned to sell immediately. The day it hit the market we were in contract with a cash buyer. Still, we thought we would have a few weeks. As it turned out, we found out on a Friday night that we needed to be out of our home (a hobby farm with small barns to empty) by the following Tuesday morning.
Like many you, I felt like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders. I was awake at night giving it to Father but getting no less anxious. I was so nervous that I couldn’t eat for more than two days. I’m telling you all this so that you will know that you are not alone. The enemy takes every opportunity to tell us that we are not enough and that we’re frauds.
Jesus said “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28–30 (NASB 2020)
I think the fact that He told us to learn from Him and used His gentleness and humility of heart as reasons is telling. Too often we feel as though we need to power through, work as hard as we possibly can, and soldier on. In truth, ours is a life of dependent rest in Him. He alone can provide the power needed to manifest Himself in and through us.
You are exactly where He needs you to be. Even better, He is perfectly able to move you should that be required. I have no idea what Father has planned for you. I have no idea what He has planned for me either. Fortunately, it isn’t our job to figure that out. We live like a small chip of wood floating down a stream. We go where Holy Spirit takes us and do what He leads us to do. Most of the time we don’t even notice it happening or see its effects.
