Sabbath Rest for You

Sabbath Rest for You

The New Covenant is the Sabbath rest that remains for the people of God.

Hebrews 4:9–11 “9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. (KJV 1900)

This covenant that governs our relationship with God is not conditioned upon anything we do. It is in force and fully satisfied by what Jesus did. It is guaranteed by a promise made by God. It is a unilateral covenant.

We see the truth of this expressed in Hebrews 6:17–19

17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: 18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; (KJV 1900)

When we attempt to maintain our righteousness before God by our own efforts, we are in effect working on the Sabbath. Jesus offers rest for our souls because He has already done all that's necessary for us to be made righteous and acceptable to God.
