The End Times

Thoughts on the End Times

(Eschatology)

I think that when Jesus returns, we are going to find out that we are in the same situation the Jews were in when He came the first time.

They had all these prophesies about Messiah, but they couldn't see them clearly, so they were convinced that He would be a political ruler and a king who would free them from oppressors on earth.

I think it’s the same with us.

Over the decades I've heard a lot of ideas about the order of events, what events will or won't actually happen, and all sorts of nonsense about what my life might be like. As you can probably imagine, it all lead to confusion–even fear.

God is not the author of confusion. 1 Corinthians 14:33 makes that clear in saying, “for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.” (NASB 2020) Nor does Father bring us a spirit of fear. In fact, the Bible says that God is love and that perfect love casts out fear. (see 1 John 4:8 & 18) It also specifically tells us that “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV 1900)

Honestly, we do not need to know the details at all. We just need to know that He only speaks the truth and expect His return.

I know what some of you are thinking, “the Bible says we need to be ready”, and “He will come as a thief in the night.” That it certainly does. Nevertheless, His return will not come to us as a thief in the night because we expect it and are looking forward to it. 1 Thessalonians 5:4 reminds us, “But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, so that the day would overtake you like a thief.” (NASB 2020)

To me it is enough to know that Jesus will return. That His return will be without reference to sin (see Hebrews 9:28—because that’s already done away with), and we will be with him forever.
